This famous observatory tower gets its name from the area where it is situated. At the top of the Galata Tower, you can enjoy a panaromic landscape that covers a great deal of Istanbul, including the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Historical Peninsula.
The formal restaurant on top of the tower, which is currently open to visitors, features traditional cuisine as well as authentic Turkish dance performances. Galata Tower Istanbul History :
Galata Tower was built in 1348 by the Genoese, was the highest point of the city walls and called the Tower of Christ. In Ottoman times it was used to detain prisoners of war and later became an fire tower between 1717 and 1962.
It has been damaged by earthquakes and fires many times, but restored each time.
Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi: Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi was the first flying Turk from the Galata Tower during the Ottoman Empire of the 17th century.
Panorama of Istanbul: In the 19th century many artists drew the panorama of Istanbul from Galata Tower.
Galata Tower Istanbul is open to the visitors each day, during the day time. Queues at the tower can be very long sometimes, since there are two elevators going up to the balcony of the Galata Tower.
